I may be tilting at windmills with my Twitter rants, but I find it so hard to believe that this is really the future. It may constitute an incremental step towards some form of communications bliss, but I'd be shocked if it doesn't get pushed aside by the first service to get data organization right (including a new and improved version of Twitter itself!).
To me, Twitter resembles a big room where everyone in the internet has come to shout at each other. The vast majority of what they have to say would be better off in a private conversations anyway; the vast majority of what they want to hear will end up being said by a very select few. And no one can remember what anyone else said just a few minutes ago.
In fact, it's not so different from another big developement in web history: AOL chatrooms.
