Issues with embedded video

March 27, 2009

It appears that the TinyMCE editor which ships with WordPress 2.7 does nasty things to HTML in a misguided attempt to be helpful.  In particular, it strips "embed" tags from embedded media (such as flash video), leaving only the object tag. The end result of this particular example is that embedded video shows up fine [...]

Dreams of Kurzweil

March 25, 2009

Microsoft's heavily-rotoscoped vision of 2019... I can't wait: For the closet futurists among you wondering about the title reference, see the "2019" chapter of Kurzweil's The Age of Spiritual Machines .

The movie makes it more dramatic

January 29, 2009

I'm reminded at this time (thanks, no doubt, to previews for Ron Howard's movie Frost/Nixon) of this gem from Richard Nixon: Well, when the president does it that means that it is not illegal. And thanks to the magic of YouTube:

I got better

January 26, 2009

And because I can't get enough animal transformations, here's one from Monty Python and the Holy Grail: Sir Bedevere: What makes you think she is a witch? Peasant: Well, she turned me into a newt! Sir Bedevere: A newt? Peasant:...I got better.

Raise your hand if you want to get rich

January 26, 2009

Speaking of Nigeria, here's one of the most classic opening scenes of The Office: Toby: Didn't you lose a lot of money on that other investment? The one from the email? Michael: You know what, Toby? When the son of the deposed king of Nigeria emails you directly, asking for help, you help! His father [...]

YouTube > Yahoo?

January 18, 2009

An article in yesterday's NYTimes describes YouTube as the next great search engine.  As its primary evidence, it presents a 9 year old boy who used YouTube to do research for a paper on the platypus insetad of Google or Yahoo.  Key quote: “When they don’t have really good results on YouTube, then I use [...]

The M is dead, long live the M

April 17, 2008

This weekend's drive has driven home the realization that my car is gone. (Assuming I even can drive with my knee shot to hell. Squash is a bloodsport dressed up with golf claps and lets. But I digress.) But I won't go on moping about it because a) the new car in the stable is [...]

At this time, CNN is projecting...

March 4, 2008

I'm generally not a fan of CNN -- I don't like their gimme interviews, I can't stand their tabloid website, I don't want to be an "I-Reporter." -- but while I've been enjoying MSNBC's intelligent journalism, CNN went out and picked up some giant touchscreens. Eye candy? Sure, but incredibly cool. Oh, and it actually [...]
